Global Resource Guide
Why Global Education?
Global education is about effectively learning to research complex problems, considering multiple perspectives, thinking critically, and working collaboratively to creatively solve problems of internationals significance. Global competencies comprise the 21st century skills students need to be successful in today’s globalized world and to be fully engaged as active global citizens.
“The aims of education are to enable students to understand the world around them and the talents within them so that they can become fulfilled individuals and active, compassionate citizens.”
Dr. Ken Robinson, from Creative Schools
Purpose of the Guide
The purpose of this guide is to provide teachers information and materials all in one convenient location to move towards globalizing your classroom, whether it be a single lesson or an entire unit. Most of the resources and linksare easy to use and have come recommended by experts and educational groups dedicated to global education. This is a living website, and I hope to regularly add resources that I come across or that individuals share with me. I look forward to working together with you on projects that help Northfield to produce caring and compassionate global citizens.
About the Author.
I was a part of the Teachers for Global Fellows (TGF) program through IREX in 2015-2016, which culminated in a trip to India in July 2016 with a cohort of 15 other teachers from around the United States. The overall intent of the program was to gain the skills necessary to globalize our classrooms and curriculum, as well as share resources with our learning communities. We learned about India's culture and history, worked with professional educators, visited schools, and I taught at a public school in Chhatarpur, India, with a host teacher. It was an incredibly amazing experience and one I highly recommend. Click on the icon to the right to learn more.
